Wetlands are such amazing places. They provide habitat for a mind-boggling number of plant, insect and animal species, improve water quality in our rivers and lakes, help manage flooding, and assist in maintaining water flows in streams and rivers during droughts.
In the Lake Erie watershed, the International Joint Commission (IJC) has recommended increasing coastal wetlands in the western end of Lake Erie by 10% by the year 2030. This is because wetlands play an important role in capturing nutrient runoff from the land before it can enter our rivers and lakes, where it feeds nuisance and harmful algae growth.
We will continue to advocate for wetland protection and restoration and we hope you will join us!
